Data Analyst Resume — datasets, decisions and examples
Build a data analyst resume around decisions you enabled: the datasets, the analysis, the tools and what changed because of your work.
Data analyst resumes fail in a predictable way: they list tools and stop. A tool list says what you have opened; the resume needs to say what you found and who acted on it.
Structure
- Summary — domain, years, the decisions you support
- Experience — for each role: the question, your method, the decision it drove
- Skills — SQL, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Python, statistics, and the warehouse you worked in
- Projects — public datasets with a stated finding
- Education — with relevant coursework for early-career analysts
Example bullets
- Built a churn model with 78% precision that reshaped the retention team's quarterly targeting
- Automated five weekly reports in SQL and Power BI, returning about six analyst-hours a week
- Found a 12% revenue leakage in the pricing table and documented the reconciliation fix
Common mistakes
- Tool lists with no outcome attached
- Dashboards built but never tied to a decision
- Metric claims without the definition or time window behind them
- Omitting the data volume or stakeholders, which is how a recruiter scales you
